After completing a 9.5MW of solar installation at 10 different Antelope Valley Union High School District sites, PsomasFMG and GCL Solar announced the newly minted Raleign Wright Scholarship for the district’s students. The companies will contribute US$80,000 over the next four years to recognize students that have excelled in math, science, leadership and character.
The scholarship, which honors the district’s retired math teacher Raleign Wright, has already been awarded to the first four recipients: Heidi Aguilar, Ashlie Lobos, Joshua Mendoza and Shelby Richardson who will all start college this fall. Each recipient will receive US$20,000 that will be applied, over four-years, to their education at an accredited four-year university.
“The scholarships that PsomasFMG and GCL Solar are providing will enhance education and employment opportunities for our students,” said James T. Lott, president of the board of trustees of the school district. “Along with the green benefits and energy savings from the solar panels, this scholarship program is yet another example of how the Antelope Valley Union High School District has benefited from its working with PsomasFMG and GCL Solar.”
In addition to the financial contributions that the PsomasFMG and GCL Solar are providing to selected district students, the companies advised that the scholarship recipients would be eligible to participate in a summer internship with either company and, upon college graduation, have the chance to interview for employment with PsomasFMG and GCL Solar.
