Designed and built on behalf of the municipality of Utscheid in western Germany, Scatec Solar has officially inaugurated its 2.5MW solar PV plant with help from the town’s Mayor Alexander Stellmes. Equipped with SMA inverters and over 10,000 REC modules, the new park was completed within its planned timeframe of six weeks by developer Copcon and will be operated by the municipality of Utscheid.
Scatec Solar oversaw the plant’s design, building and commissioning, and will also see to the regular maintenance of the plant. The site was said to have posed a number of problems to the plant’s construction, with “challenging soil conditions” leading to the companies’ decision to construct large concrete foundations upon which to situate the structure. Close to 10% of the plant’s total area merited use of this foundation solution; despite this setback, the plant was completed within its six-week timeframe.
“We were very pleased to have won the tender and were invited to build the PV plant on behalf of the Utscheid municipality,” said Raymond Carlsen, CEO of Scatec Solar. “By completing and grid connecting the plant on time, we have proved that we have the competitive capabilities to deliver high quality and commercially sound projects even in a narrow time frame.”
