More details are believed to have emerged regarding the 150MW Mesquite Solar 1 PV power plant in Arizona. Previously announced was that Sempra Generation had selected 800,000 Suntech modules for the project, which would be designed and built by Zachry Holdings. In a statement from PV mounting specialist Schletter, the company said a 150MW plant being built by Zachry would use Schletter’s ground-mounted ‘FS System’ and its ‘Rapid2+’ pre-assembled module clamps that have an integrated grounding pin.
According to Schletter, the FS System is a pile-driven galvanized steel post, using lightweight, highly pre-assembled aluminum components. When complete, the mounting systems will consist of nearly 22,000,000 pounds of steel and aluminum.
Overall, the mounting system design for this project was wind tunnel tested. The Mesquite Solar 1 plant is expected to be completed in 2012.
