Sharp’s US solar panel manufacturing plant, Sharp Manufacturing Company of America (SMCA), located in Tennessee, celebrated its newest solar addition in the form of a 200kW roof-mounted and 59kW ground-mounted PV system. The company’s manufacturing facility used 1,174 of its own solar modules, essentially doubling the facilities solar electricity production.
SMCA’s two new solar arrays bring the sites total solar generating capacity to nearly 460kW. The company first installed a 50kW ground-mounted solar system in 2006, which was followed by a 150kW rooftop solar system in 2010.
“As a company that has been in the solar industry for nearly 50 years, there can be no doubt that Sharp truly believes in solar,” said Kozo Takahashi, CEO and chairman of Sharp Electronics. “SMCA is one of several Sharp facilities around the world that generates a portion of its power through solar electricity, saving the company money and reducing our carbon footprint.”
