Effective April 1, Shaun McGrath will commence his new position as executive director for the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). McGrath joins ASES with over 25 years of public policy experience in the local, state and federal arenas and most recently served as deputy director of intergovernmental affairs for the Obama administration at the White House.
McGrath’s previous engagements include serving as mayor of Boulder, Colorado and two terms as a Boulder City Council member. During his time with the city of Boulder, he worked to pass the Climate Action Plan and collaborated with Xcel Energy to make Boulder a smart grid city.
Additionally, he is credited with lobbying Congress and the Administration during his time as program director for Western Governors’ Association for initiatives such as the WGA Water and Drought program, WGA Wildlife Program, Western Renewable Energy Zone Project and the WGA Climate Adaptation Program.
“Shaun McGrath brings to ASES a strong track record in bipartisan policy development at the national, state and local levels,” said ASES Board Chair Jeff Lyng. “He has been a powerful advocate of renewable energy in two branches of government and in the city of Boulder, which has been a national leader in sustainable development. We are delighted that Shaun will lead ASES into a new era and look forward to introducing him to the ASES community at SOLAR 2011 in Raleigh.”
