SMA's Canadian subsidiary is supplying inverters for a 100MW PV plant in Ontario, said to be the largest solar plant in Canada.
Starting in January 2014, SMA will supply 130 of its 98.7% efficiency, Sunny Central 800CP-US inverters, and will also undertake operational management of the Grand Renewable Solar project for ten years.
The operational management is to include overseeing the medium-voltage components, modules, frames, all cabling and the vegetation and fencing around the plant. Repairs, device replacements, maintenance and visual inspection, as well as inverters will be provided by SMA.
SMA CEO Pierre-Pascal Urbon said the North American market is “one of the most important PV markets worldwide” and the contract for inverters and operational management proves SMA has an “excellent international position”.
Canadian Solar began construction on the Ontario project, hoping to power 17,000 houses, in October. The project is scheduled to be operational by 2015.
