The Solar Energy Industries Association, along with Senator Maria Cantwell, has released an independent study, which projects the creation of up to 200,000 new American jobs in the solar field and 10GW of new solar installations by 2016. The results stem from the potential economic impact of extending the Department of Treasury Grant Program by two years and including solar manufacturing in the industry’s existing Solar Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit.
“Extension of the Treasury Grant program is essential to continuing our nascent economic recovery and moving to a cleaner, more distributed 21st Century energy system,” said Senator Cantwell. “Tens of thousands of jobs hinge on continuing this successful program, including thousands of new solar jobs in Washington State in the next two years.”
New solar jobs would come from California with 60,000 jobs, Michigan with 24,000 jobs and seventeen other states with at least 1500 new jobs being created. Solar installations by state would equal California with over 4400MW, Arizona with over 1400MW and ten additional states with at least 100MW produced every year.
