SolarCity, the US’s largest solar power provider, has appointed a former Progressive Insurance marketing strategist as its new chief marketing officer, with hopes that he will innovatively increase promotion of the company.
Jonathan Beamer worked for Progressive since 2011 and during his time as the business leader in marketing strategy and innovation, Beamer extended the company’s notable ad campaign featuring the insurance clerk, Flo. He will report to SolarCity’s chief revenue officer Hayes Barnard, who said he expects Beamer to help customers realise their solar energy options, similarly to the campaign Beamer developed for Progressive that encouraged customers to research insurance options.
“Many people don’t know that they have an option to shop around for their electricity because they’re used to paying monthly utility bills the way their parents always have – I expect Jonathan Beamer to change that,” said Barnard. “Jonathan is great at finding novel ways to reach consumers and he will focus on lowering SolarCity’s customer acquisition costs.”
“Solar is still a young industry, yet it is already beginning to transform America’s energy infrastructure,” Beamer said. “The vast majority of Americans want to use more solar power, but few realize that SolarCity can make it so simple and affordable.”
