Solar provider SolarCity has announced that it has appointed Marco Krapels as senior vice president of structured finance and strategy. At his new position, Krapels will work under chief financial officer Brad Buss and conduct SolarCity’s project financing department.
Before joining SolarCity, Krapels served as a partner at Pegasus Capital Advisors. Prior to his tenure at Pegasus, Krapels was an executive vice president at Rabobak, overseeing multiple divisions over 18 years with the company.
Buss noted: “Marco's vast experience in commercial and project financing—particularly within the renewable energy field—in addition to his management expertise and personal passion for sustainability make him a perfect fit for this position. He will be a tremendous asset as SolarCity embarks upon its next stage of growth.”
During his time at Rabobank, Krapels managed the company’s European Corporate Debt Capital Markets from 2004-07 and then Rabobank N.A.’s capital markets, finance areas and renewable energy finance department in California from 2007-13.
While Krapels worked with Rabobank, the company collaborated with SolarCity to develop the world’s first solar-powered, fast-charge electric car changing corridor from Los Angeles to San Francisco, with EV chargers and PV systems co-located at Rabobank branch areas.
Krapels — who is part of two renewable energy non-profit foundations in The Solutions Project and Empowered by Light — has closed over US$10 billion of debt transactions in his career.
