Renewable energy provider sPower has been awarded a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) to generate 68.8MWdc of PV power.
As part of the deal, the sPower Antelope DSR 1 and 2 facilities will be developed on roughly 178 hectares of land in Lancaster, California, Los Angeles County. Construction is expected to begin mid-2016, with both sites slated to begin operations later in the year.
Kelly Nguyen, SCPPA director, Energy Systems, said: “Renewable energy continues to be a focus for SCPPA members, and with partners like sPower, we are able to offer our members clean, reliable and affordable power.”
Once operational, both projects will be able to produce enough energy to power nearly 10,000 homes and cut carbon emissions by about 108,000 metric tons per year.
