Renewable energy provider sPower has signed a non-exclusive joint development deal with power developer Hecate Energy that will see sPower purchase nearly 162MW of projects.
The 162MW portfolio will consist of three plants — Beacon 1, Beacon 3 and Beacon 4 — which will be designed and built by Hecate neat Mojave, California. The utility-scale plants will then be owned and maintained by both Hecate and sPower.
Ryan Creamer, sPower CEO, said: “sPower's strength comes from delivering on what we promise. We take an entrepreneurial approach that seeks out projects that are not only environmentally and economically feasible, but also move our industry forward – like the Beacon projects.”
Groundbreaking on the projects is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2015. The plants will supply energy to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power through 25-year power purchase agreements.
Once completed, the Beacon projects are expected to generate enough energy to power over 25,500 homes and reduce carbon emissions by more than 283,500 metric tonnes per year.
