Encapsulant producer STR Holdings will move the majority of its U.S. manufacturing operations to a newly-acquired factory in East Windsor, Connecticut, which will also house a 20,000 square foot research and development laboratory. Relocation costs are expected to total US$19 million.
Manufacturing work at STR’s current facilities in the towns of Enfield and Somers will cease once all the equipment has been transferred to East Windsor, which will be completed in the next nine to 12 months. The company’s product management and sales teams will also relocate to the East Windsor site, which will enable STR to increase its manufacturing capacity in Connecticut to 3GW in 2011.
“This facility will provide ample space to increase Connecticut production capacity up to approximately 6GW and to enable us to increase our research and development,” said STR‘s chairman, president and CEO, Dennis Jilot, chairman, president and CEO of STR Holdings.
