STRAMA-MPS, a German based global operating testing and handling equipment supplier has introduced its third generation ‘ProMoSim evo³’, LED-based sun simulator for improved solar cell testing that includes quality checks, high precision IV curve measurement and steady state light soaking and cell degradation measurements.
Instability of spectra due to thermal and aging effects at classic bulb based flashers cause mismatches in PV cell efficiency measurement. Additionally deviation in Pmax is caused by transient effects, the so-called sweep time. Here, the charging of a capacity in the specimen needs an appropriate time to allow precise sweeping through the IV curve.
With ProMoSim evo³ the company claims it offers a highly accurate efficiency measurement by minimum non-uniformity (<0.4%) and excellent spectral match (±10%). Intensity variation and programmable spectra allow for additional tests e.g. degradation or light soaking in the steady state mode. This is made possible by a multi colour LED illumination array, additionally offering a life time of over 50.000.000 flashes without degradation effects and therefore lower costs of operation, compared to lamp-based systems. Together with the long term conditions (temporal long term instability of irradiance <0.5%) the system offers the opportunity to cover classical flasher applications and innovative steady-state features into an all-around test system.

ProMoSim evo³ is a table top test system for photovoltaic cells up to 8-inch. It is based on a large surface multi colored LED array, offering short pulsed flash and continuous light. According to IEC 60904-9 it offers precision much better class AAA. The system includes a 4Q-amplifier plus software and monitor cell. Customized solutions can be created depending on the cell and string size.
