KB Home has been giving its customers solar power system options in California and Colorado for several years now, but under a new collaboration with SunPower, the two companies will build ten Southern California communities that have solar power systems as a standard feature in every home. SunPower will oversee the solar installations for all the homes built in the California communities; a system that may help qualify homeowners for a federal tax credit.
Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB Home stated, “If consumers respond as positively as we expect to the tremendous financial and environmental advantages of these homes in the marketplace, we plan to expand this industry-leading initiative to our other market across the country.”
Similar to a MPG sticker on new cars, the KB Home communities will feature a KB Home Energy Performance Guide (EPG), which will give homeowners an estimated monthly electric and gas cost with the solar power system. Home sites that feature a standard solar system can already be found at KB Home communities in Eastvale, Temecula and Chula Vista, California. Five more KB Home developments will open in the next two months while the final two communities will debut sometime this fall.
