Photovoltaic module producer Suntech Power Holdings recently completed two solar power plants in Spain in collaboration with a+f GmbH, manufacturer of the SunCarrier single-axis tracker. Suntech supplied approximately half of the panels used in the two installations: an 8.5-MWp plant in Alange and a 7.4-MWp site in Alconera.

The modules were installed on more than 450 SunCarrier trackers, which increase the power efficiency of the solar systems by as much as 32% above that of fixed-mounted solar energy units, according to the companies. The two solar plants will reportedly produce enough energy to power around 9300 Spanish households.

“The combination of these two products enabled us to efficiently use the land available and develop a high-power-output solar solution that can satisfy the energy needs of thousands of households,” said a+f’s managing director, Rico Wojanowski.

“These solar projects illustrate the potential for intervalue chain collaboration to provide highly efficient and completely sustainable energy solutions,” added Jerry Stokes, president of Suntech Europe.

Suntech has several partnerships with leading solar project developers and distributors in Spain, Italy, and Greece through the consistent supply of its reliable, high-conversion efficiency crystalline-silicon PV modules. The company says it expects to ship more than 230 MW of solar modules to Southern Europe this year.

The utility-scale PV market is poised for exponential growth and yet the industry still has many fundamental opportunities to improve on standards and best practice. Tracker shade loss has been one of those topics that deserve more attention, but has been typically handled by derate factors rather than trying to accurately forecast the loss over the life of the system. Join Nextracker’s subject matter experts, Aron Dobos and Neelesh Umachandran, and Rounak Kharait, director of solar energy assessments at DNV, for a webinar about why shade modeling matters and recommendations on what the solar industry should do about it.

Join us to hear directly from the CTOs and heads-of-research from the top-20 cell/wafer producers to the PV industry today. The event will focus on predicting the key metrics underpinning the next big shift to n-type with answers to the key questions: When will the transition to n-type happen? Which companies will be first to 10 GW capacity and production? Who will be the key equipment suppliers for the new production lines? Which n-type process flow/architecture will emerge as the front-runner? What will polysilicon purity and wafer thickness levels look like for optimized n-type manufacturing? What will the upstream poly/wafer supply-chain look like in 5 years from now?
