With 10 years of operations under its belt, Suntech has marked the occasion by announcing that over 5GW of its PV modules have been installed across the globe. The world’s largest crystalline silicon module manufacturer is the first to attain this much-coveted landmark achievement, and has hinted that it intends to surpass the 10GW mark within the next two years.
Suntech claims that its panels alone have offset in the region of 3.78 million tons of CO2 per annum across their multiple installed locations, which include deserts, snow-prone regions and coastal environs.
Commenting on the news, Suntech's founder and CEO Dr. Zhengrong Shi said, “We are extremely proud to achieve this milestone of 5GW installed capacity on our 10 year anniversary. This achievement was made possible by our customers, business partners and employees who have been working throughout the global solar ecosystem to make solar electricity affordable for everyone. With a focus on achieving retail grid parity in 50% of global markets by 2015, we will continue to work with our customers and partners to change the way the world produces and consumes energy.”
