In just less than a year, Suntech Power Holdings is having its second major senior management shakeup, after Johnson Chiang, Suntech’s 11-month Chief Operating Officer, resigned from his position effective July 3, 2009 citing personal reasons. As a result Guangchun Zhang, Suntech’s Vice President of Manufacturing Technology and Quality, will take over the crystalline silicon PV manufacturing operations in China, while Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech’s Chairman and CEO, will oversee the new Shanghai thin film plant, KSL Kuttler and BIPV manufacturing operations at Suntech Japan on a temporay basis while a suitable replacement is found.
“We appreciate Johnson’s significant contributions to Suntech over the past year and wish him all the best in the future,” said Dr. Shi. “Guangchun has extensive operations, technology and quality experience in the solar industry and we have no doubt he will easily transition to this expanded role.”
Guangchun Zhang has over 15 years experience in the photovoltaic industry and previously worked at the Centre for Photovoltaic Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia and Pacific Solar Pty. Limited. Mr. Zhang received his bachelor degree and his master degree in 1982 and 1988, respectively, from the School of Electronic Engineering at Shandong Polytechnic University.
