Confirming and expanding the news of the 500MW solar plant announcement from the company just a few days ago, Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. has signed several definitive agreements for the development of 1.8GW of solar power plants. The plan is to develop 300MW, 500MW, 500MW and 500MW of solar projects in several locations throughout China in several stages.
The agreements have been finalised with each of Shaanxi provincial government (300MW); Shizuishan city government, Ningxia province (500MW); Qinghai provincial government (500MW), and Panzhihua city government, Sichuan province (500MW), which was revealed just under two weeks ago.
While these projects are subject to passing certain conditions, including obtaining related permits from the National Development and Reform Commission, drafting project designs and ensuring sufficient funding has been garnered, it is expected that the first of the projects will be commissioned before long.
“These strategic agreements demonstrate the commitment of governments of Shaanxi, Shizuishan, Qinghai and Panzhihua to adopt utility scale solar energy to power sustainable development”, stated Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech’s Chairman and CEO. “Plentiful solar resources combined with Suntech’s premium quality solar systems can deliver decades of clean, renewable electricity throughout many regions in China. With ongoing investment in technology and innovation, Suntech is determined to continue to drive the cost to grid parity and encourage greater adoption of solar throughout China.”
