The
Banksia International Award for excellence in environmental leadership,
created by Australia’s Banksia Environmental Foundation, has been
awarded to Suntech Chairman and CEO Dr. Zhengrong Shi (pictured). Dr.
Shi joins Sir David Attenborough and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of
California as recipients of the award that recognizes outstanding
contributions in the field of environmental awareness and protection.
The award, which was presented to Dr. Shi at a ceremony in Melbourne, Australia on July 18th, was first presented in 1995 and is the highest form of accolade in the country for recognition of environmental awareness. According to Suntech, Dr. Shi devotes more than 20 percent of his time to meeting with government officials, business leaders, academics and citizens to create and maintain awareness about climate change and global warming.
“I am honored to receive this designation from the Banksia Environmental Foundation,” said Dr. Shi. “The symptoms of climatic change are ubiquitous and of worldwide concern, and I feel strongly that it is our responsibility, both as individuals and as corporations, to proactively support initiatives that conserve our environment and encourage sustainable development. It is with that goal in mind that Suntech passionately drives technology advancements to reduce cost and facilitate the widespread adoption of solar power.”
