DEGERenergie will deliver 2,660 TOPtraker 8.5 units to Sicily by the end of the year, to be used in the local Province of Agrigent, where a 3MW solar park is being developed. The order has been placed by the general contractor, Martifer Solar Italy, a subsidiary of the Portuguese Martifer Group.
The plant will belong to the private company Amplio Solar, part of a large international group based in London, which is active in the field of renewable energies.
This plant will use single-axis solar tracker technology, becoming the largest solar plant with trackers in Sicily and one of the largest in Italy. It will occupy an area of 13 hectares of agricultural fields.
DEGERenergie has already delivered the first TOPtrakers, and by the end of the year 2,660 systems will have been distributed to Sicily. The tracking systems won’t be mounted on concrete foundation, but will be anchored into the ground using specially designed steel constructions in order to comply with local authority wishes.
The works will take approximately six months, being brought online at the beginning of 2010, producing enough energy to supply more than 1,660 families, generating 100MW of power.
Said Martifer Solar Italy Director General, Pedro Pereira: “When we developed the Vaglio solar plant in Basilicata, we completed the works in less than three months. Now we are more experienced and more efficient, so we are fully sure that we can do this plant within the deadline set by the developer.”
