High-technology equipment manufacturer Intevac said that recent process development work with a tier-one solar cell manufacturer had led to the purchase of a ‘MATRIX’ PVD system.
Intevac said that the new customer would use the system to deposit integrated metal film stacks in advanced silicon solar cell designs, utilizing processes qualified in the recent development work with Intevac.
Wendell Blonigan, Intevac's president and chief executive officer said: “The MATRIX PVD system order we are announcing today from yet another tier-one solar cell manufacturer demonstrates the significant progress we have made in our Thin-Film Equipment growth strategy.”
The MATRIX PVD system was said to be shipping in the second quarter of 2016.
Intevac recently said it was qualifying its second ‘MATRIX’ PVD system with another tier-one PV manufacturer and since noted in an investor presentation that customer sign-off was due within the next two quarters of 2015.
