Major PV equipment specialist, Meyer Burger has received orders worth over CHF25 million (US$28.1 million) from two customers based in Asia.
A key follow-up order was received for its water-based diamond wire cutting systems from what the company said was a “leading solar wafer manufacturer”. Diamond wire cutting systems are now becoming used for slicing of monocrystalline wafers to reduce kerf loss and eliminate the need for expensive slurries used with conventional wire saw technology.
Meyer Burger also noted it had received an order for industrial diamond wire-based cutting systems in a non-PV related sector.
As with the expansion of PV module assembly and debottlenecking back-end lines from the majority of tier-1 PV manufacturers this year, Meyer Burger also noted it had received an order for its lamination tools. Quantities and financial details were not disclosed.
However, the company noted that the two PV related orders amounted to around 700MW of capacity, delivery of the systems was said to have been scheduled throughout 2014.
