European renewable energy producer Voltalia's has connected it 4.5MW Le Castellet PV plant, said to be the first project to be grid-connected under France’s national solar tender scheme.
Voltalia said the plant in Le Castellet, south-eastern France, is the first plant connected out of 105 projects, with a combined 520MW capacity, allocated under France’s national solar tender programme – which aims to install 120MW of solar annually.
The 105 plants were allocated by the French government to various operators following the tender launched in 2012 – Voltalia was selected in February 2012.
Voltalia aims for 500MW production capacity in operating plants by 2013; its total installed capacity is now 52.2MW
France has been improving installed solar capacity according to the Ministry of Energy, Ecology and Sustainable Development, recently reaching 4GW of installed PV.
