Recently, the chemical Group Wacker, based out of Munich, finished expansion of the Shanghai Technical Centre located at Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. The facility has been expanded to house over 10 labs for Wacker’s silicone and polymer sectors. These provide goods to a wide range of industries from coatings and adhesives to electronics. The group invested €1 million to boost the company’s research and development competency in the area and to provide the best customer support to the Chinese market.
The technical centre’s floor space has doubled to 3,400m2. All labs have been enlarged and modernized and several new labs were built. Testing, training and application development capacities have all enjoyed a boost, but the real highlight is the local product customization and development capability.
Wacker has set in motion a long-term development strategy in Asia and especially China and considers this to a be a milestone for their interests. “Even though the economy is going through challenging times right now, Wacker’s commitment to the Chinese market remains unchanged”, says Dr. Peter von Zumbusch, President of Wacker Chemicals Greater China.
