Former managing director of Yingli Green Energy Americas, Jeffrey Barnett has been appointed in the same role with Silicon Module Super League (SMSL) member and rival GCL System Integration Technology Co (GCL-SI).

Barnet has been with struggling Yingli Green since October, 2012 but was not present on Yingli Green’s quarterly earnings call late last month.

The former Yingli Green Energy Americas managing director, Robert Petrina (April 2009 to October 2015) joined rival SMSL, JA Solar as US managing director & president.

Yingli Green has seen it shipments to the US decline since encountering financial problems and lack of manufacturing capacity outside China to avoid US anti-dumping duties.

GCL-SI said that Barnett had been appointed as president of GCL-SI Americas, responsible for business development across the Americas region.

Shu Hua, president of GCL-SI said, “GCL-SI is rapidly expanding its presence overseas in the Americas, Japan, India, Australia, and Africa. To establish GCL-SI as a leader in these markets, we are building strong local teams, growing business networks, and pursuing strategic acquisitions. With these goals in mind, Jeff's deep industry experience will be a valuable asset as we accelerate business development across the Americas region.”

“I'm excited to join GCL-SI, and I look forward to expanding our team's notable successes to the Americas,” said Barnett. “Demand for solar and other renewable energy technologies is strong across the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean, and these markets present significant, rapid growth opportunities to GCL-SI. I look forward to positioning the company as the region's renewable energy leader.”

Barnett served in leadership roles at numerous well-known energy companies, including Wirsol Solar, Exelon Corporation, Blue Square Energy, and AstroPower.  He holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
