The Chinese government has announced a target of 13GW of installed solar power capacity for 2014, according to the state news agency.

Previously the government had said it would support a maximum of 14GW through its various incentive schemes with a split of 8GW of distributed projects and 6GW for large-scale.

The target of 13GW was announced by Wu Xinxiong, head of the National Energy Administration (NEA), who said he expected distributed PV to drive the majority of installs.

The industry expected the second half of 2014 to see the lion's share of installations.

A number of policies have been announced to cut red tape for developers and speed up grid connection. Wu encouraged local governments to also drive distributed solar deployment and hinted that further policy announcements could offer the sector encouragement.

In July 2013, a 10GW a year objective for 2013 through 2015 was announced.
