India hits 8.6GW of solar PV

India’s cumulative solar PV capacity has now reached 8,626MW as of 30 September this year, according to figures from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

India first crossed the 8GW milestone in August, but Tamil Nadu has moved from second to first place as the state with the most capacity:

Indian solar continues to go from strength to strength having surpassed 1GW of rooftop solar capacity in the last month and with a reported US$3.1 billion support package for domestic PV manufacturing set to boost the sector.

However while Tamil Nadu has the highest capacity, it is also suffering from solar power curtailments.
