Real estate developer SODIC and Electro-Mechanical for Energy (EME) have signed a contract to equip 400 rooftop solar installations at SODIC’s VYE development in Egypt with Suntech’s C72/Vmh modules. This will be Africa’s largest residential project, with a capacity of 2MW and an annual production capacity of 3.5 gigawatt-hours, eliminating 1,600 tons of carbon dioxide.

The contract was signed by SODIC general manager Ayman Amer and EME CEO Mohamed El-Sheikh, in the presence of representatives of Suntech and inverter manufacturer Sungrow.

Chairperson of the Arab Consulting Office, Suntech’s exclusive partner in Egypt, Ms Aya Zanaty, and country account manager Wanyi Zhang, both expressed delight at the company’s participation in what will be the second largest residential project across the Middle East.
