Solar and wind energy provider Juhl Renewable Energy Systems, a subsidiary of Juhl Energy, has been appointed the lead contractor for all rooftop PV systems installed through Solar Chicago, a programme serving Chicago, Illinois and other surrounding communities.

Dan Juhl, CEO of Juhl Energy, said: “We are very honoured and excited to be appointed as the principal rooftop solar system installer for the Solar Chicago programme to provide affordable and efficient renewable energy solutions for its residential property owners throughout the Chicago metro area.”

Juhl Energy’s engineering consulting subsidiary Power Engineers Collaborative (PEC) will be responsible for energy modelling, designing and installing the arrays.

Solar Chicago is granting rooftop PV installations to Chicago residents at 25% below market rates through September 30 after forming a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Vote Solar. The programme, which was created thanks to a WWF grant, will not cost the city anything. WWF, Vote Solar and the Chicago-based Environmental Law and Policy Center will administer the initiative.

Chuck VonDrehle, vice president of sales at Juhl Energy, said: “In just the first few days, we have had over 700 individuals register, a terrific start to the programme and already exceeding our expectations. We are starting to see these types of initiatives surfacing in several other regions of the country, and it really confirms the growing demand for sensible renewable energy solutions. Instead of a just a roof over your head, you can now have a clean energy solution that is not only reducing your energy costs, but also the carbon footprints of the city and states across the country.”

Any homeowner that takes part in Solar Chicago’s deal will not only receive discounts through the installation, but will also take part in a Federal tax credit and rebate from a selected contractor team that will expand as more customers join the program.
