Tamil Nadu solar policy orders new net meters for residential PV

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO), a state-owned energy firm, will be required to provide new net meters for households with rooftop PV systems installed under Tamil Nadu’s net metering scheme.

The new meters will be installed by the distribution licensee at the cost of the consumer. TANGEDCO has been given 30 days to submit a detailed procedure the installation of the new meters.

The requirement has been outlined in the framework of the Tamil Nadu solar policy which aims to promote the development of solar and add 3GW of installed PV and solar thermal capacity in the state by 2015.
