CNPV marked the end of 2010 by unveiling its largest Chinese project to date. The 7MW plant in Dongying, Shandong Province, which cost an estimated US$25 million, was officially opened on December 29, 2010 at a ceremony attended by dignitaries including Dongying’s mayor, Li Jinkun.

IBC Solar has sold its 11.2MW facility in Manzano, Italy to Allianz Specialised Investments. With 47,000 polycrystalline and 3,600 thin-film hybrid modules, the Udine-based park is one of IBC’s largest developments and was connected to the grid on December 7, 2010.

Flexible silicon thin-film firm Xunlight has received IEC 61646 and 61730 certification, conducted by TÜV InterCert Group. The certification enables the U.S.-based manufacturer to market its products in Europe, competing against the likes of Uni-Solar products.

First Solar has acquired Idealab operating company RayTracker, a photovoltaic panel tracking technology and balance-of-systems firm based in Pasadena, CA. RayTracker's team will join First Solar's engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) group, and the acquired company’s customers will be transitioned to its new parent.

PV julist and juwi have finished work on a 7.4MW rooftop installation at Goodyear Dunlop’s logistics centre in Philippsburg, Germany. The system is the world’s third-largest roof array and has the capacity to generate 7.3 million kWh of electricity every year.

United Solar has installed 80kW of its Uni-Solarbrand modules on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas cruise ship, reports Design-Build Solar. The modules cover 2,000 m2 and will generate 111,108kWh of electricity annually for the ship’s shopping area.

Daqo New Energy has revised its guidance for its 2010 fourth quarter, marking an improvement over what the company previously forecasted for the period that ended on December 31. Combining customer orders with product deliveries, Daqo New Energy approximates that its fourth-quarter shipments of polysilicon are between 930MT and 950MT, far above the 825-850MT the company previously predicted.

JinkoSolar has won the right to supply Premier Power Renewable Energy with 1.3MW of multi-crystalline solar modules during Q1 2011. The agreement sees JinkoSolar make significant inroads into the U.S. solar supply market for the first time and Premier Power add another high-profile name to its list of suppliers.

Technic has appointed Wilson Xia as its Asia-Pacific technical director of photovoltaics. Xia’s new role will see him working on the research and development, applications engineering and distribution of the company’s TechniSol photovoltaic processing technologies.

On Christmas Eve the Spanish Government made the controversial decision to again cut the financial support offered to solar power generators. The unstable budget situation in the country has forced the Government into a corner in which it will now make significant cutbacks to subsidies for PV plants installed on the Iberian Peninsular, with the additional reduction affecting existing as well as new installations over the next three years.
