Invenergy starts construction at 120MW solar PV project in Washington, US

US independent power producer (IPP) Invenergy has started construction work at its 120MW Quincy Solar Energy Center in Grant County in the US state of Washington.

Invenergy hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction at the project last week, and said that it expects to start commercial operation at Quincy in “late 2027”.

Invenergy also signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Quincy project with the Grant County Public Utility District (Grant PUD) in 2025. The utility plans to acquire 300MW of solar PV capacity by 2027 and Grant PUD CEO and general manager John Mertlich called the project a “vital component” of the utility’s plans last week.

“We’re proud to partner with Grant PUD on its first solar project in the county and help advance a shared goal of delivering reliable, affordable electricity while creating lasting economic benefits for Grant County,” added Invenergy lead developer for Quincy Solar Mateo Gomez.

Invenergy advanced a number of projects across the US last year, including a 250MW project in Indiana and a 300MW plant in Texas.

Quincy is the company’s fourth energy project, and third renewable energy project, in Washington, alongside the 90MW Vantage wind project, at which commercial operations began in 2010; and the 90MW Schnebly Coulee solar project, at which it expects to begin commercial operations in 2028. The company also operates a 100MW solar PV portfolio in neighbouring Oregon.

Crux invests US$215 million in Invenergy Ohio solar project

In other news, US clean energy capital platform Crux has announced a US$215 million tax equity investment into Invenergy’s 240MW Pleasant Prairie Solar Energy Center in Franklin County, Ohio.

Invenergy started construction work at the project last year, and expects to begin commercial operations at the facility in 2027. Crux noted that a “third-party offtaker” had agreed to acquire the clean energy credits generated by the project, and follows the publication of the latest Crux report, which shows that US tax credit transfers were worth US$21 billion in the first half of 2026.

Earlier this month, Crux head of policy Hasan Nazar told PV Tech Premium that “there’s a lot of good news” in the current US policy landscape, naming tax credit transferability as “key lever” to facilitate financing in the industry.

Crux’s investment into the Invenergy project was underwritten and structured by Crux Capital Securities, a subsidiary of the platform, and Crux chief capital officer Yonette Ching McLean said that renewable energy financing in the US “increasingly depends on bringing together the right mix of capital, structuring expertise, and execution”.

“Securing tax equity financing for this project with such a strong financial partner demonstrates our commitment to advancing energy infrastructure that supports economic growth, strengthens energy supply, and helps power communities across Ohio,” added Invenergy senior vice president and head of North American project finance Matthew Ransweiler.
