The Exchange shopping centre in Gainesville, Florida is set to be fitted with one of the state’s largest rooftop arrays after new owners Nautilus Solar reached an agreement with Inman Solar to construct the 350kW project.

One of the largest photovoltaic power plant projects in First Solar’s North American pipeline moved another step closer to buildout, as the environmental impact report for the AV Solar Ranch One has become final and is no longer subject to appeal. Principal construction should begin on the 230MW (AC) site in northeast Los Angeles County in Q3 2011, according to company sources.

Glimcher Realty Trust plans to develop what's being called the largest single-rooftop solar system in North America. The 4.8MW array will be built on the roof of the Jersey Gardens mall in Elizabeth, NJ, and will offset about 11% of the site's electrical consumption. SunPower will design, install, and maintain the system.

Xtreme Power’s Dynamic Power Resource (DPR) battery storage system was purchased by Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) for its 1.5MW Koloa substation. The utility-scale DPR system will be installed at the solar PV plant and is expected to also help with the effects of a 3MW solar PV project that will also feed into Koloa.

Alternate Power International, in conjunction with Sustainable Energy Technologies, has announced a partnership between the two companies that will see API bundle Sunergy inverters with its Sun-Spy SST-10 solar tracker for the micro-FIT and FIT markets. Taking into account API’s forecasted 2011 demand, Sustainable Energy will produce up to 5MW of Sunergy inverters and offer its technical support in order for API to achieve the most advantageous tracker performance.

SoloPower becomes the fourth CIGS thin-film photovoltaics manufacturer since the beginning of the year to announce it has selected a site for its volume production facility. The San Jose-based company has chosen Wilsonville, OR, where it plans to build a 75MW plant and create 170 new jobs as part of its initial phase of expansion. SoloPower made its decision in part because of a package of local and state incentives that includes at least $40 million in potential loan and tax credit monies.

Southwest Solar Technologies (SST) has completed the first stage of its solar park in Phoenix, Arizona. The focal point of the 18-acre facility is a 75-foot wide solar dish, which plays a key role in SST’s solar dish turbine technology.

Siemens Energy has been commissioned by BrightSource Energy to deliver its SPPA-T3000 instrumentation & controls (I&C) system along with two steam-turbine-generators for the Ivanpah solar thermal power plant in California’s Mojave Desert. This is the first use of the I&C system in a solar tower power plant of Ivanpah’s size; the total installed capacity will be around 400MW.

Lockheed Martin presented Polarity with an award to supply its solar-inverter technology for deployable airfield power systems commissioned by the U.S. Air Force. The new system, known as the Integrated Smart BEAR Power System (ISBPS) is projected to diminish fuel consumption by 25% and help sustain modular bases that house thousands of troops. Neither company supplied the terms of the contract.

PVT Solar, manufacturer of the Echo solar system, has signed a National Agreement with Meritage Homes, which will see Meritage solely use the Echo solar system at its solar-powered communities in the U.S. The Echo solar system has already been used at solar-powered communities in the U.S. with homebuilders such as Meritage, Joseph Carl Homes and Shea Homes providing homebuyers the option of the Echo solar system. The agreement is said to be the first of its kind in the home building industry.
