Solar wafer producer NexWafe has secured a €30 million (US$32 million) investment to accelerate the construction of its first commercial-scale wafer plant in Bitterfeld, Germany.

A consortium that is developing Saudi Arabia’s largest solar project has reached financial close for the plant and has secured the backing of state oil producer Saudi Aramco.

Despite no publicly declared major incidents of cyberattack in the renewable energy sector to date, successful attacks on the wider energy industry are expected to be replicated in the future, according to the chief of an insurer now offering cover for such threats to clean energy.
