Solar Millennium has claimed that its Kuraymat, Egypt solar-thermal power plant, in operation since June, has been surpassing field performance by 8%. The parabolic trough technology hybrid plant holds an overall 150MW electric capacity and in addition to solar energy, uses natural gas to allow for 24-hour operation.
Dunmore advised of its newly added capacity for the manufacturing of solar backsheets, which incorporate DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions’ Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film. IKEA officially started generating solar power with its 11th completed US solar project; a new 538kW, 68,000 square foot PV system at its Emeryville, California location. Using 2,394 Gloria Solar panels, the system is anticipated to produce nearly 760,300kWh of solar electricity per year.
Solar Frontier will be starting to put its Kunitomi plant to serious work as it recently closed a deal to supply over 30MW of its CIS solar modules to solar projects in India by the end of 2011. The deal with the National Solar Mission and Gujarat State intends to use Solar Frontier’s CIS modules in various solar projects as the company’s modules are said to deliver higher overall energy output under real weather conditions.
Saint-Gobain has begun construction on its first manufacturing plant in North America. Located in Goodyear, Arizona, the facility will house the company’s mirror line for solar thermal power stations and supply the domestic US market. The plant, with an estimated production capacity that corresponds to an annual thermal output of 300MW, is anticipated to be online by the 2011 fourth quarter.
OPEL Solar has advised of its recent agreement with Energi Insurance Services, which will see the solar company buy Energi’s Manufacturer’s Product Warranty (MPW) Insurance for its TF-800 solar tracking systems. The additional insurance will supplement the company’s five-year limited, or optional 10-year extension, warranty, for material and equipment.
Solar financier Main Street Power revealed that it had selected AlsoEnergy’s software platform for a nearly 3MW distributed generation solar project in California. AlsoEnergy’s technology will support the energy monitoring and user interface requirements for the multi-site project.
Canadian Solar has furthered its foothold in the US market with the opening of its second warehouse facility located in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey. The facility adds PV module storage capacity for the company for the support of its growing customer demands and uses solar energy from its own PV rooftop system. Located within two miles from the port, the facilities location is expected to diminish drayage costs from port to warehouse. The first shipment of modules is anticipated to arrive mid-month.
