Chile’s installed PV capacity has reached the 102.6MW mark with the addition of SunEdison’s near 100MW Amanecer project.

Official figures from the country’s Centre for Renewable Energy (CER) showed in January that just 6.7MW was installed.

An announcement on the CER website showed that figure was now at 102.6MW. With a number of large solar farms in the works, this figure could begin to grow at a greater pace.

The country has a PV project pipeline in excess of 5GW but problems, largely with grid infrastructure, mean much of this is yet to break ground.

In January of this year Abengoa was given approval for a 110MW concentrated solar power install, SunEdison’s 92MW Gramadal plant got the nod. The pipeline has also grown by more than 100MW during February.

PV Tech will publish an interview with Salvatore Bernabei, head of Enel Green Power in Chile and Andean countries on Monday, 24 February.
