Deutsche Bahn’s 3.92MWp PV plant commences operation in Wittenberge, Germany

German logistics company Deutsche Bahn’s PV plant located in Wittenberge, Germany, has officially commenced operation. The plant was developed in partnership with India-based Moser Baer Clean Energy and has a total capacity of 3.92MWp.

The PV plant has been built on a former landfill covering an area of 8 hectares. Output from the site will be fed into a local grid which, in turn, will help to meet the annual energy needs of around 900 households.

Deutsche Bahn has been actively investing in solar energy in recent years. Since 1997, it has installed a number of PV plants on the rooftops of several railways stations in Germany including Berlin Central Station, Hamelin and Uelzen. Furthermore, the company has identified 3 million ft2 of space for the potential installation of solar plants.
