Efforts by the Chinese government to provide support to its struggling PV manufacturing sector have surfaced in Kenya, Africa, in the form of a government-approved business. Known for its municipal public works, Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic & Technical Co, Ltd. (CJIC), is planning to build a 50MW solar power project near the country’s northwest-located city of Garissa.

On September 4, Thai oil company Bangchak Public Petroleum Co. (BPP) connected its 44MW PV plant in Thailand — the largest silicon PV power plant in South East Asia, it claims. It is located in Bang Pa-In, Ayutthaya, which is around 40km from the country’s capital Bangkok.

IBC Solar has upped its corporate social responsibility profile by donating a 14.4kW solar power system to the Lewa Children’s Home in Eldoret, Kenya. A total of 120 solar panes and six inverters have been supplied to the orphanage, which house approximately 120 children aged between a few months to 18 years.

IKEA’s New Haven Connecticut store has officially launched its 940.8kW rooftop PV system, making it the Swedish company’s 32nd completed US solar project. Built across 118,000 square feet, the PV array uses 3,920 panels and is anticipated to produce nearly 1,099,800kWh of energy per year.

Jiangsu Zongyi Co. Ltd, a Chinese manufacturer of PV products and project developer, has built and connected one of Italy’s largest integrated photovoltaic plants — a 13.5MW rooftop solar array located in Marche in central Italy.

WAAREE Energies, an Indian PV manufacturer and project developer, has been on a roll in the past few months and has been awarded yet another turnkey EPC contract for a 5MW thin-film PV plant from Taxus Infrastructure & Power Projects Pvt. The location of the project has not been disclosed.

The board of directors for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the US government’s development finance institution, recently gave its approval of providing up to US$250 million for OPIC’s first solar power project in South Africa.

After Arizona Public Service (APS) chose McCarthy Building to engineer, procure and construct its 14MW Hyder II Solar Power Plant in Hyder Arizona, the two companies noted that they have begun the permitting process for the new solar site.

ReneSola will soon be shipping 512kW of its solar modules to Cummings Properties, a commercial real-estate developer and property management organization in Massachusetts. The panels will be installed on the rooftop solar system of the Cummings Centre, which acts as a corporate campus and retail centre for Cummings Properties in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The National Post is reporting that the city of Toronto has entered an agreement with Toronto Hydro in order to install 8,800 solar panels on 10 city-owned arenas and community centres. The panels are expected to produce around 2,600MWh of electricity per year over the next 20 years.
