PV systems integrator, Phoenix Solar is using First Solar’s CdTe thin film modules on a 1.7MW project in Italy for an independent power producer, while a 1MW plant near Rome will use CIGS thin film modules from MiaSolé. The project is for an unidentified Italian investor, according to Phoenix Solar.

One of Japan’s main power suppliers, Kansai Electric Power, has started commercial operation of its 10MW PV plant in Sakai City, Osaka, reports Bloomberg. The plant, which started partial operation in October 2010, is one of the largest in Japan and generates enough electricity to power around 3,000 homes.

This summer solar developer Espe Sunparc has completed the installation of a 10MW PV project portfolio in Italy. All 10 projects were installed between July and August and are located across fove regions. The portfolio is expected to generate 14 million kWh of electricity per annum.

On August 15, Tsumkwe, a small village in Northern Namibia was able to receive its first, around-the-clock electricity supply in three years thanks to a hybrid solar system completed by juwi Solar. The 200kW system, consisting of a 1MW battery storage unit and three integrated diesel generators, is claimed to be one of Africa’s largest off-grid solar systems and supplies Tsumkwe’s public buildings and 100 private households with electricity.

Alex Solar, a R&D, manufacture, sales and technical service provider for crystalline silicon solar modules and PV application systems, announced its latest investment in an 8MW solar power plant located in Potsdam, Berlin. The company noted that this is one of several investments it is making in solar projects throughout Berlin and Munich.

Akuo Solar, a subsidiary of French independent power producer Akuo Energy, will use 75,000 SunPower E19 modules for two PV power plants in the Provence-Alps-Cotes d'Azur region in the south of France. Construction of the PV power plant has already started and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

SunPeak Solar advised that it had selected Suntech Power Holdings to supply 28.7MW (DC) of its solar panels for its 23MW (AC) solar project in Niland, California. Suntech will supply 100,000 of its 285/290W Vd-Series modules, which feature its SuperPoly silicon processing technology. SunPeak Solar’s subsidiary, Imperial Valley Solar Company (IVSC) 1, will manage the project’s construction and installation of the modules.

Mitsui and Toshiba are joining forces to build Japan’s largest PV system, according to financial newspaper Nikkei. With a capacity of 50MW, the plant will be considerably bigger than any other in Japan and cover 800,000m2 of Mitsui-owned land in the Aichi Prefecture.

Nexamp and Cathartes Private Investments are joining forces to build the largest privately-owned solar project in Massachusetts. The 4.5MW system will be comprised of 14,000 panels and span 22 acres of industrial land bordering Route 3 near Westford. Construction is scheduled to begin this autumn.

Government officials from Delaware were on hand with White Oak Solar Energy, a subsidiary of LS Power Group, and SunPower to commission the 10MW Dover SUN Park solar project in Dover, Delaware. SunPower designed and built the 10MW solar park using its tracker systems across the 103-acre site and installed its SunPower E20/327 solar panels.
