Deploying 523MW of Astronergy PV modules, the first phase of the Kela power plant, the world’s largest and highest hydro-solar plant, became operational on June 25th.

The Kela plant is located on the west Sichuan plateau, at an altitude of 4,600 meters, and is constantly subjected to challenging weather conditions, including strong winds, blizzards and  extreme temperatures. Astronergy’s ASTRO series modules were selected for the project specifically due to their high efficiency and proven stability in difficult operating environments.

The installed capacity of 1,000 MW for the plant’s first phase equates to an annual power generation of two billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), capable of satisfying the electricity demands of 700,000 households, while reducing use of coal by an annual 600,000 tons and eliminating 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
