Colombian President Gustavo Petro has attended a ceremony at a refinery near Cartagena, where he personally signed a JA Solar module to mark the completion of a groundbreaking PV project – the first PV power plant to be built at an oil refinery in Latin America and an initiative supporting the country’s renewable energy development agenda.

JA Solar exclusively supplied the PV modules for the 23MW project, constructed by PowerChina at the Cartagena refinery of the Colombian Petroleum Company (Ecopetrol), whose CEO, Ricardo Roa, hailed the project as “a milestone in replacing conventional oil and gas with clean energy solutions.”

The completion of this landmark project underlines JA Solar’s commitment to advancing renewable energy across Latin America, having already participated in high profile projects in Brazil and Chile.  .

“Building on this success, JA Solar remains fully committed to driving Latin America’s renewable energy transition through technological innovation and market excellence,” commented executive president Aiqing Yang. “By leveraging our industry-leading products and expertise, we aim to continue to play a pivotal role in advancing global carbon neutrality and fostering a sustainable future.”
