Suntech Power has announced that its 26.7MW Planeta Rica PV plant in Colombia has now been connected to the power grid. The project is a joint venture with Dutch developer MPC Energy Solutions (“MPCES”), with French developer Akuo Energy also owning a 50% stake.

Deploying the company’s C72/Pmh+ modules, the plant will supply an annual 48GWh of electricity to the grid and is expected to generate around USD 1.6 million in revenue for Suntech in 2024. The design of the modules is highly compatible with tracking systems, resulting in a cost-effective solution for the plant, with bifacial power generation increasing yield by up to 25% and further reducing LCOE.

Planeta Rica will sell electricity under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to Celsia, one of the country’s leading energy companies and is expected to eliminate over 4,000 tons of CO2 each year.
