Renewable energy project developer Sustainable Energy Capital Partners (SECP) has formed a joint venture partnership with Korean independent power producer Posco Power to develop and build a 300MW photovoltaic power plant in Boulder City, Nevada. Etrion has released its interim consolidated financial statements and related management discussion and analysis for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2010 and 2009. Highlights for the third quarter include closing the acquisition of the 24MW first tranche of the 33MW Montalto solar park in Italy - subsequently closing the final 9MW tranche - recording US$7.0 million in revenues and completing a US$15 million private placement of shares to meet Toronto Stock Exchange listing requirements.

Sharp has signed an agreement with NED, the wholly owned independent power producer of Mitsubishi, based in the Kingdom of Thailand, to establish 73MW of thin-film solar power generation plants. The construction of the project, which is expected to be one of the largest in the world, will begin by the end of July for completion in 2011.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems measured the results on industry-standard size cells made by the materials and technology company at ISE's independent testing center in Germany.

One of the most ambitious solarpower projects in the U.S. received the regulatory greenlight Thursday from the California Public Utilities Commission. The commission voted unanimously to approve Southern California Edison’s plan to install scores of 1-2MW photovoltaic grid-connected systems on the rooftops of commercial buildings throughout the utility’s Southern California service area. Under the terms of the approved measure, SCE will own, install, operate, and maintain 250MW of PV panels in the next five years and will solicit bids from independent suppliers to deploy another 250MW. Together, the added solar capacity will provide enough electricity to meet the needs of up to 320,000 Southern California households.

SoloPower today became the first US ANSI/UL 1703-certified manufacturer of flat-plate, CIGS-based (copper-indium-gallium-selenide) PV modules. The Silicon Valley-based producer of thin-film solar photovoltaic cells and modules is well on the way to its goal of mass-producing PV modules.

Independent renewable power producer Fotowatio has acquired the core U.S. solar power assets of MMA Renewable Ventures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Municipal Mortgage & Equity, LLC.  MMA became well known for its 14MW PV installation at Nellis Air Force base. Upon completion of the deal, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures will be one of the largest solar development companies in the United States.

A 16-year veteran of the renewable energy industry, Jean M. Wilson has joined the SunPower team as Vice President and General Manager of the company’s utilities and power plants. This new role will include running SunPower's North American utility and power plant division, supervision of all project development and overseeing utility and Independent Power Producer partnerships, as well as marketing, EPC and component sales.
