Solon has inaugurated its first ground-mounted solar power plants in France, located in Ferrassières near Avignon, in the Rhône-Alpes region. Solon Investments planned and constructed the two turnkey plants, with a combined nominal output of 3MWp, on the former site of two launch pads for intercontinental nuclear ballistic missiles.

The two separate photovoltaic systems, consisting 14,500 Solon Blue 230 polycrystalline solar modules, have been developed for investor groups, International Energy Investments Group and Investricity Group, two Ireland-based Solar Investment Aggregators.

“These power plant projects are an excellent demonstration of how photovoltaics can create added value; former military sites are now hosting solar power plants that generate environmentally-friendly energy and reduce CO2 emissions,” said Stefan Säuberlich, CEO of Solon.

Alain Desvigne, CEO of Solon said, “We are delighted that our first solar power plants in France are finally completed. It serves as a top-notch reference for our sales subsidiary in Lyon to use the opportunities in the fast growing photovoltaic market in France.”
