Silfab Ontario has signed a contract to supply modules for Alderville First Nation’s new 5MW solar farm in southeastern Ontario. The project is expected to be connected to the grid by November and will generate 5.7 million kWh of electricity per annum.

A 1MW concentrator photovoltaic power plant built on six acres of land formerly reserved for baby pistachio trees has been activated and is providing electricity to the Southern California Edison regional grid in Central California. The site, which features SolFocus CPV systems, is located on the Nichols Farms property in Hanford. Sol Orchard developed the project, with Bechtel Power providing the engineering, procurement, and construction expertise.

Capital Dynamics and Tangent Energy Solutions have signed a joint development agreement, which will see the two companies working together on commercial-scale solar energy projects throughout the United States. Under the agreement, Capital Dynamics will arrange the funding necessary to build, own and operate existing and future solar projects developed by Tangent.

LDK Solar has finalized its purchase of 70% interest in Solar Power under a US$33 million deal. An initial US$10 million was paid in January with the remaining US$23 million closing today. The companies look to this acquisition enabling Solar Power to enhance their project pipeline, while supporting LDK Solar’s prospects for its vertical integration model through module supply for large-scale projects.

Canada’s Qsolar shipped a record number of its proprietary Spraytek79 solar panels to European customers during the final quarter of 2010. The final sales total of US$600,000 was a more than 100% increase on the Q3 figure.

SL Industries subsidiary Teal Electronics has received a US$1-million order from Energy Innovations for its latest grid-tied power supply. The power supply will provide start-up electricity from the grid for Energy Innovations' highly-concentrated photovoltaic (HCPV) Sunflower tracking system.

Pictometry Online is extending its 3-D like, high resolution aerial images to solar contractors, which the company states will allow for a better and more accurate calculation of solar exposure, panel placement, sizing, roof pitch and square footage for a solar installation on either a residential or commercial building.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has officially opened its new 2.2MW solar farm. Located on university-owned land next to Maryland Route, the SunEdison-built system spans 17 acres and with 7.800 panels it is one of the state’s largest PV developments.

Tucson Electric Power has chosen SunPower's rooftop solar technology to equip its new Bright Roofs programme. The T5 Roof Tile will power systems, totalling 11MW, which are being installed on leased school and public-building rooftop space in Tucson over the next three years.
