Canada has appealed against a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling that a local content policy within the province of Ontario’s feed-in tariff (FiT) violates global trade rules.
At the end of last year the WTO upheld complaints by Japan and the European Union that the policy unfairly discriminated against companies from those areas.

The WTO’s appellate body, which is reviewing the case, will take up to three months to conclude its investigation.
Ontario’s FiT requires up to 60% of a solar or wind project’s equipment or services to come from Ontario-based companies in order to qualify.
