US solar cell and module manufacturer T1 Energy has signed a 641MW module supply agreement with independent power producer (IPP) Clearway Energy.
Under the supply agreement, the modules will be built using domestic solar cells from T1’s G2_Austin solar cell processing facility.

Currently under construction, the facility is expected to begin tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell production in the first quarter of 2027, and once fully ramped up, it will have an annual nameplate capacity of 2.1GW.
According to the solar module and cell manufacturer, it expects to offer modules with more than 60% domestic content in 2027.
Moreover, the module supply agreement comes days after T1 Energy acquired a set of patents for TOPCon solar cell and module technology. The patents were acquired from Singapore-based Evervolt Green Energy for US$135 million, the same company from which it had previously leased the licences.
In a recent interview with PV Tech Premium, Dan Barcelo, CEO of T1 Energy, highlighted the commercial advantage of producing n-type TOPCon modules (subscription required) over p-type passivated emitter rear contact (PERC), as many US module manufacturers have done.
“Contracts with top-tier manufacturers like T1 help ensure that Clearway can deliver on our ambitious development pipeline with competitive and reliable projects,” said Frances Cook, vice president of procurement at Clearway Energy. “With this deal, we are especially excited to bring domestic cells into future construction, generating American-made power with American-made parts.”
