Constellation Energy will be developing a 5.2MW DC solar PV system with Johnson Matthey and Preferred Unlimited on the Johnson Matthey facility in West Deptford, New Jersey. Constellation Energy will not only own the system, but also be responsible for its financing, operation and maintenance. In turn, Johnson Matthew will be able to purchase the electricity produced on the site under a 20-year PPA.
“Solar power continues to make good sense for companies like Johnson Matthey that are seeking affordable electricity prices for the long-term while supporting clean, renewable energy generation,” said Michael Smith, senior vice president of green initiatives for Constellation Energy’s retail business. “These types of commitments are a big reason that last year’s U.S. solar electric capacity is higher by 37% over the previous year’s, and continues to expand.”
The PV system will be constructed over 21 acres and will use PV panels and the SunPower Tracker system by SunPower, who is also handling the design and build of the system. Construction has already commenced on the solar project with an anticipated completion date for sometime in the first quarter of 2011.
