Ameresco was chosen by the Department of Veterans Affairs to build a renewable energy project at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ameresco will design and build the solar PV system, which holds a valued cost of over US$6.6 million. The design phase will start right away, with construction slated to begin early next year with completion anticipated within a 10-month time frame.

Solon has inaugurated its first ground-mounted solar power plants in France, located in Ferrassières near Avignon, in the Rhône-Alpes region. Solon Investments planned and constructed the two turnkey plants, with a combined nominal output of 3MWp, on the former site of two launch pads for intercontinental nuclear ballistic missiles.

A significant increase in sales and bookings has forced GT Solar to raise its revenue guidance after reporting on its second fiscal quarter sales of US$229.3 million. This represented nearly a 70% growth over reported sales of US$135.2 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2011 and approximately 120% growth over the second quarter of last fiscal year when sales were reported at US$104.2 million. GT Solar reported an order backlog of US$1.16 billion, with US$544.6 million in its polysilicon segment and US$601.1 million in its PV segment.

Steven Brewer, a 20 year veteran of the large-scale utility industry, has been named Solar Trust of America’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer.  Additionally, Brewer will serve as CEO for Solar Trust’s wholly owned engineering, procurement and construction subsidiary, Solar Trust of America , and be a member of the management board for the company.

Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology has revealed its intention to acquire Alcatel-Lucent's Adixen vacuum technology unit, headquartered in Annecy, France. Negotiations on the purchase of the companies, patents and licenses belonging to this unit have been largely finalized with Pfeiffer Vacuum's supervisory board consenting to the acquisition on November 3.

Scheuten Solar and Solar Umbria have signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the supply and installation of approximately 15,000 photovoltaic modules on four separate sites in Gualdo Tadino, Umbria, Italy. A full scope O&M contract was also signed for the project, which is to be developed by Neu Solar, which will feature as an investor and main shareholder, and EGBM which will act as shareholder and main subcontractor.

The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has approved a pre-feasibility study for the construction of the first phase of First Solar's 30MW thin-film solar power plant located in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. This phase marks the beginning of 2GW which are to be implemented in the area through 2019.

SunPower has agreed to collaborate with Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs and ConEdison Development for the construction of a 1.2MW ground-mounted solar system on six acres of Bell Labs headquarters in Murray Hill, New Jersey. Anticipated to be fully up and running by next spring, the solar system will use SunPower’s T0 Trackers on over 3,700 solar panels.
