Constellation Energy has announced its partnership with Holyoke Gas & Electric (HG&E) for the production of a 4.5MW solar installation in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The installation is stated as being the largest in western Massachusetts is expected to begin commercial operation this summer. Using 18,400 SolarWorld PV ground-mounted panels at two locations, the power system will generate 5.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

Conergy has finished work on its new 2.2MW PV park in north Brandenburg, Germany. Once connected to the grid, the system, which is made up of 27,300 modules and spans 12 acres, will generate 2,134 MWh of electricity every year.

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has signed contracts with subsidiaries of Soitec Solar Development to build three solar projects in San Diego County with a combined capacity of 30MW. All three systems will use Soitec Concentrix technology and are currently awaiting approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.

Clean Energy Pathways and Green Mountain Properties have signed a joint venture agreement that will see the companies collaborate on a 4MW, US$28 million, solar PV plant in Green Mountain, North Carolina. Green Mountain will supply the 40 acres of land where the facility will be built, while Clean Energy acts as lead developer.

Hanwha Chemical is planning to spend KRW1.04 trillion (US$955 million) on a new polysilicon plant in South Korea to help double sales over the next five years. When construction is completed in July 2013, the Yeosu plant will have the capacity to produce 10,000 metric tonnes of polysilicon a year.

Continuing its PV equipment company consolidation attempts, Meyer Burger will acquire Roth & Rau in a friendly takeover. Meyer Burger said it had already acquired a total of 11.3% of the share capital of Roth & Rau AG from the founders and key shareholders. Meyer Burger is offering bearer shares in Roth & Rau at €22 per share in cash, a premium of around 41% compared with the volume-weighted average share price of the past three months. The total deal is worth approximately €356.6 million.
